You also need to determine on what sort of wood you want to use to develop your table. Pine is the cheapest, but it won't last long. Cedar and redwood are two popular choices. They keep their color and shape outdoors, which gives your table some longevity. However, they are a bit more expensive.

Once you know the features you want and the wood that you'll need, you're ready to find some octagon picnic table plans. I ordinarily look for plans that I can understand.
